NightGlow
over Canada I came back a few nights later to see if the glow was still there, and sure enough it was. I brought my camera with me to capture it. Check it out.
(1)
The view is from Italy across WorldShowcase Lagoon, looking towards
Canada. It's just before ROE because the flame piers are lit. You can
see it's nice and dark everywhere except the sky above and around
Canada. The Soarin' building can be seen "glowing" behind it. The two red dots in the sky are internal camera lens reflections from the flame piers. (not UFO's!)
(2)
It's a half hour later in this photo. The drums are beating, just
before the first rocket from ROE. The flame piers are extinguished.
The flame reflections in the water (and the red dots in the sky) are
gone. The glow in the sky is even more obvious now since all the
pavilion lights are out. Canada is dark, but Soarin' is not

I zoomed back for this shot to show more of the western shore
horizon. There's no glow anywhere except behind Canada. The blue patch on the right is a corner of Imagination peeking through the trees. The white patch below it might be the McDonald's refreshment port.
So what's the deal? -- After Illuminations was over I walked over to Imagination and went back by where the restrooms are. I peaked over "CM Only" fence behind Imagination to see what the deal was. (Just looked -- no backstage pictures, of course!) Two things -- I could see that the backstage parking lights behind Imagination have shields on them so that the lights shine downward only. This is good. But I also saw that there are new floodlights on the sides of the Soarin' building that simply shine in all directions -- including up. This is what's lighting up the sky. I'm sure it's unintentional. The lights on the front side of Soarin' are lighting up the front side of the Soarin' wall. They also shine across to the backside of the original Imagination building, which bounces light back on Soarin' again. I couldn't see the back side of Soarin', but I'm assuming the same lights are on the rear of the building as well. These would light up the sky behind Soarin', allowing us to see the back edge of the Soarin' roof too. All this is bad enough before ROE begins, because you can see the glow before the show. But it's even more obvious when the lights go out and it's dark.
A Disney fix is needed -- Get some shields on these lights so they all only shine down! Secondly, you know that part of the ROE show when the narrator "puffs" out all the flames and lights in WorldShowcase at once? I mean, even the lights on SSE way off in FW go out! Well, the floodlights on Soarin' don't. Disney needs to key those lights to go out when ROE starts, don't you think? (Or maybe they wouldn't have to if they were shielded better -- I doubt that the older, shining downward floodlights behind Imagination extinguish)
